470. Walter Edward Hugins, Jr.
Walter's date and place of death is from the Social Security Death Index. Walter attended Princeton (A.B., 1941) and Columbia (M.A., 1947). He won first prize in freshman debate at Princeton and at the Court Club. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal in the U.S.Army Air Force, 1942-46, as a Lieutenant. He was an aerial bombardier, navigator and radar observer and flew 26 bombing missions with the Eight Air Force in the European Theatre of Operations. He was appointed Park Historian at Hopewell Village National Historic Site, at the Statue of Liberty and Castle Clinton National Monumnets and the Morristown National Historical Park. He was a lecturer and instructor in history at Columbia University (1949-51).
