141. Cornelius Rea Agnew
Cornelius attended Columbia (1849), the College of Physicians and Surgeons (M.D., 1852) and engaged in special studies in medicine in Dublin, London and Paris. He was a surgeon for the Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City (1855), founded the New York Opthalmalgolical Society (1866), was surgeon-general of New York State, established a clinic of Opthalmalogy in the College of Physicians and Surgeons (1866), established the Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital (1868) and the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital (1869), was professor of diseases of te eye and ear at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (1869-1888) and assisted in the institution of the School of Mines at Columbia University.
